The area we hunt is 230 miles northwest of Whitehorse, Yukon, bordering on the Kluane Game Sanctuary to the South and Alaska to the West.
The concession is approximately 5500 square miles of wilderness, with the majority of the area being accessible by horseback or foot only. To give you a better idea how big the area is, it is about 100 miles by 55 miles or 3.5 million acres of land that we alone can take non-resident hunters.
The Yukon is about 207,000 square miles, with a population of only 30,000 people. There are several small communities throughout the Yukon, mainly scattered along the Alaska Highway, while the majority of Yukoners live in and around the capital of Whitehorse. With very few people in this vast wilderness, you have where ever you are hunting to yourself.
When hunting for Sheep, the primary mode of transportation is horseback. Our outfitter raises his own horses, they are very gentle and no special riding skills are required.
All hunters are supplied with their own guide. Like the rest of the guides who work for this outfitter, he also guides full time and they all work very hard to ensure that your hunt is an experience of a lifetime.
On any of the hunts you book, you can use rifle, archery or muzzle loader. When trying to choose a rifle caliber for your hunt, we would suggest the rifle you are most comfortable with. A well placed shot with any caliber of rifle will harvest the largest of game animals.
All hunting gear and personal gear should be of good quality as you will find lower quality gear usually does not last a hunt. Please see our gear list for ideas!
We offer combo hunt packages for combinations of all the game animals. On any of the fall hunts you can also harvest a Black Bear, Timber Wolf, Coyote, and a Wolverine. There are no harvest fees should you take one of these game animals while on any of the fall hunts.
We use three main Base Camps for our hunting in the spring and fall. These camps are located at key areas in our concession. These well-built camps provide everyone with warmth, comfort, and relaxation. Base camps are always a welcoming place to start and end a trip. Depending on what camp you will be arriving at, a couple of the base camps are accessible only by air or horseback. In addition, one of our camps is accessible by vehicle too.
All the base camps have cozy, clean cabins for the hunters and guides. Cabins are equipped with real mattresses and bed frames for a good night sleep. The base camps also have separate comfortable cookhouses to come and enjoy our country cooking which may include fresh fish, wild game meat, and fresh produce and baking to compliment the comforts of our camp. Take time to relax and put your feet up and listen to a good adventure story or sit outside and take in the pristine scenery that surrounds you. Also, we have very functional shower houses / wash stations with instant hot water, large shower stalls, towels, soap and shampoo to rejuvenate you during your trip. As well, we have generators for plugging in the freezers and can be used for charging batteries. Please keep in mind we usually vitalize the base camps at the beginning and the end of your hunt.
Meat sheds with freezers and a basic cutting area are available at the base camps. If a hunter would like to process some of their game harvested, they are more than welcome to help out with what they want to take home. We have wrapping paper and freezer bags available for the meat at these camps. Paper work will be completed in Whitehorse to export meat of the territory.
Accommodations vary when you travel to spike camps. At our spike camps you will either stay in a small cabin or set up a wall tent. The wall tents are equipped with wood stoves to keep you warm and dry. The cabins are will equipped to make your stay comfortable. During a trip you may experience the opportunity of moving by horseback to different spike camps. All these camps are well situated to take advantage of what the area has to offer.
In addition to other amenities whether you are at a base camp, on the trail or at a spike camp, each guide is equipped with a satellite phone for emergency purposes only. These phones are turned on if there is an emergency or to contact our office. If clients require communications we recommend renting the Iridium system with a waterproof compact durable case. (Do not use or rent the Globalstar satellite system as it does not work in our area).
We are sure you will find our accommodations and lodging very comfortable. We recognize how important this is to clients in this day and age and we want to meet your needs while you enjoy your trip with us. It has taken us many years to develop our remote camps as everything you see at the sites whether it be a base camp or spike camp has been hauled in by horse, snow machine, and plane or boat a little at a time. We take a lot of pride in our camps and hope that the extras we have provided will make your stay and experience a memorable one.
All hunting packages are complete except for your personal gear, rifle, sleeping bag etc. You pay for your licenses and tags in June of the year you hunt. We will have these for you when you arrive into camp.
Deposits
We require a deposit to hold a hunt date for you. After receiving a deposit for a hunt we stop offering the hunt you have booked. If you decide to cancel your hunt your deposit is non-refundable unless prior arrangements have been made.
Special Requirements
With using the horses to get into the many areas we hunt, we can take hunters who may have physical limitations or disabilities on any of the trips we offer, and have had great success in doing so. We do need to know your condition before your hunt. If you have a heart problem, knee problems or need a special diet for medical reasons only, please let us know so we can plan your hunt to better suit you and your needs.
Trophy Care
When you harvest a game animal, your guide will take care of the fleshing, caping and salting of all capes, horns or antlers. Hunters will be able to take their trophies with them, or they can be shipped to you at the end of the season. We will ship your trophies home to you by air or truck. All trophies are shipped to you C.O.D.
Some of the meat from the Moose and Sheep is consumed by the hunters and guides during the hunt. We will usually keep enough for a couple nights and take the rest to the base camp to be wrapped and frozen. The meat is usually taken out by float plane to the highway camp and from there we transport it into Whitehorse by vehicle. You are more than welcome to take meat home with you. The meat that is left behind often feeds many families in and around Whitehorse.
Firearms
On any of the hunts that you book with us you can use rifle, archery or muzzle loader.
When trying to choose a rifle for your hunt, I would suggest the rifle you are most comfortable with. A well placed shot with any caliber will kill the largest of game animals.
As of January 1st, 2001 you will need to fill out a form to bring your firearm into Canada. The form is called a NON-RESIDENT FIREARM DECLARATION. We will send this form to you and you fill out the one page and hand it in to customs at the Canadian Border. The fee is $50.00 Canadian. If you plan on hunting in Canada several times you can take a firearms course and get a FAC, or Firearms Acquisition Certificate. The FAC is good for 5 years and costs approximately $60.00 Canadian.
A wounded animal can be considered a harvested one, and every effort will be made to find that animal.
Arrival into Whitehorse
Your arrival in Whitehorse, Yukon can be arranged through your travel agency. We have daily flights into Whitehorse from Vancouver, British Columbia. Upon arrival in Whitehorse, our expeditor will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel and to the float plane dock. Hotel rooms are about $160.00 USD per night.
We request all hunters to arrive at least the day before your hunt is scheduled to begin. Plan to schedule your flight home the day after your hunt. On our Sheep hunts, most hunters will fly into our Base Camp by float plane. These flights are booked a year in advance so hunters can arrive early on their hunt date. Should a hunter require alternative transportation to that scheduled, the hunter will incur all costs.
