Stone Sheep, our area lies in the southern range of the Stone Sheep. Our rams are as dark as you will find anywhere. Our Stone Rams average 36-38” with 14-15” bases. Pelly Lake offers hunts for these beautiful animals in early August to the 1st part of September with a maximum of 2 sheep hunters per hunt. All hunting is done by horseback and hiking out of our comfortable cabins or is done by back packing into inaccessible areas by horse. Success rates usually run close to 90%Accommodations vary when you travel to spike camps. At our spike camps you will either stay in a small cabin or set up a wall tent. The wall tents are equipped with wood stoves to keep you warm and dry. The cabins are will equipped to make your stay comfortable. During a trip you may experience the opportunity of moving by horseback to different spike camps. All these camps are well situated to take advantage of what the area has to offer.
In addition to other amenities whether you are at a base camp, on the trail or at a spike camp, each guide is equipped with a satellite phone for emergency purposes only. These phones are turned on if there is an emergency or to contact our office. If clients require communications we recommend renting the Iridium system with a waterproof compact durable case. (Do not use or rent the Globalstar satellite system as it does not work in our area).
We are sure you will find our accommodations and lodging very comfortable. We recognize how important this is to clients in this day and age and we want to meet your needs while you enjoy your trip with us. It has taken us many years to develop our remote camps as everything you see at the sites whether it be a base camp or spike camp has been hauled in by horse, snow machine, and plane or boat a little at a time. We take a lot of pride in our camps and hope that the extras we have provided will make your stay and experience a memorable one.
All hunting packages are complete except for your personal gear, rifle, sleeping bag etc. You pay for your licenses and tags in June of the year you hunt. We will have these for you when you arrive into camp.
Deposits
We require a deposit to hold a hunt date for you. After receiving a deposit for a hunt we stop offering the hunt you have booked. If you decide to cancel your hunt your deposit is non-refundable unless prior arrangements have been made.
Special Requirements
With using the horses to get into the many areas we hunt, we can take hunters who may have physical limitations or disabilities on any of the trips we offer, and have had great success in doing so. We do need to know your condition before your hunt. If you have a heart problem, knee problems or need a special diet for medical reasons only, please let us know so we can plan your hunt to better suit you and your needs.
Trophy Care
When you harvest a game animal, your guide will take care of the fleshing, caping and salting of all capes, horns or antlers. Hunters will be able to take their trophies with them, or they can be shipped to you at the end of the season. We will ship your trophies home to you by air or truck. All trophies are shipped to you C.O.D.
Some of the meat from the Moose and Sheep is consumed by the hunters and guides during the hunt. We will usually keep enough for a couple nights and take the rest to the base camp to be wrapped and frozen. The meat is usually taken out by float plane to the highway camp and from there we transport it into Whitehorse by vehicle. You are more than welcome to take meat home with you. The meat that is left behind often feeds many families in and around Whitehorse.
Firearms
On any of the hunts that you book with us you can use rifle, archery or muzzle loader.
When trying to choose a rifle for your hunt, I would suggest the rifle you are most comfortable with. A well placed shot with any caliber will kill the largest of game animals.
A wounded animal can be considered a harvested one, and every effort will be made to find that animal.
License
In British Columbia all non resident hunters must hunt with a certified Outfitter. Therefore, there are no license drawings or deadlines. Clients purchase their licenses through the Outfitter in advance of their hunt.
